About Us

The Club was founded on 18th September, 1988. It was agreed that the club ethos should be that, “it should cater for all types of model boating “. Twenty- five years later , albeit with a reduced and somewhat ageing membership, that still holds good. Our members are knowledgeable and skilful at both building and sailing, and would be keen to pass on the benefit of their experience to anyone interested.

It would be true to say that all the models built by our members are working models controlled by radio control. Some enjoy building scale models of full-sized craft but, in addition, all possess at least one racing yacht specially designed for competitive sailing against other yachts in the same class. Such sailing doesn`t have to be highly competitive and can be quite relaxed.  On the other hand, sailing in a bunch in a strong breeze around a marked course, strictly to the full-sized “Rules of Sailing” can be quite demanding, to say the least!

The Club meets most Saturday afternoons at 1.30pm, at a pontoon in Carrickfergus harbour situated near to the Premier Inn. Access is opposite the Boat-yard  entrance. (see "how to find us"). This is dependant on conditions and members` availability. To confirm sailing arrangements ring either Sam (02893361349) or Peter (028933262120, on Saturday morning after 10.15am.
